A collaboration between Lona Currie of “Recovery Soulfood” and “Transgender Mentor,” and MartinJon of “Recover Yourself” addressing how admitting we have a problem opens the door to healing. Lona and MartinJon will examine that theme of this year’s Recovery Month with a critical eye. Looking at how racism, homophobia, and many other systems of oppression have been wielded by many in the recovery community keeping people away from the wonderful communities and lessons recovery had to offer. This year’s eye on Everyone is a great leap but without public acknowledgment, or admitting there was wrongdoing healing cannot happen, and that is what our communities need right now.
The first step in recovery is admitting there is a problem, if this cannot be done by organizations in the recovery field we will continue to exclude people from the true gift of recovery.
