The Centers, Inc. and The Marion County Children’s Alliance are hosting “Recovery in a Bag: A Drive Thru Event” and we are distributing free Narcan, and offering support to anyone who drives up and asks for help. Narcan reverses the effects of an overdose. The free distribution is part of National Recovery Month. National Recovery Month is a national observance held every September to educate Americans that substance use treatment and mental health services can enable those with mental and substance use disorders to live healthy and rewarding lives.
This FREE event will provide citizens with overdose treatment medication, Narcan, community resources, medication disposal pouches so unused/expired medications can safely be discarded in an environmentally-friendly manner.
For many battling addiction, COVID-19 has created the perfect storm for relapses. On a local level, we are seeing an increase of overdoses. Marion County had 657 suspected overdose cases in the first six months of 2020, 28 of those cases were fatal overdoses and 318 of the cases were treated with Narcan, an emergency drug overdose treatment.
Participants will be able to remain in their vehicles, having minimal contact from staff, which will be taking all necessary COVID-19 precautions.
