Center for Recovery and Wellness Resources is celebrating Recovery Month by holding a Peer Recovery Festival Virtual Watch Party of the Big Texas Rally for Recovery September 19, 2020. We will celebrate connections by holding this in-person Luau Style event under a big tent so those who do not have the the means/technology to enjoy virtual celebrations could also participate in recovery month. We will have speakers, games, raffles and also be serving our peers and family dinner, giving away mask and hand sanitizer as we socially distance and watch the faces and the voices of recovery in Texas together.
Approximately 9.2% of American households obtained SNAP benefits at some point in 2017, with approximately 16.7% of all children living in households with SNAP food benefits. We know that since the COVID-19 pandemic began, over 3.2 million people in Texas have applied for unemployment services bringing the numbers for 2020 up drastically for families struggling to provide food for their families. CRWR is aiding in providing food for these families in dire need of a meal. Our peers have come together to feed recovery. During this time, we realize it is especially hard for our peers in recovery from substance use and mental health disorders. We stand united as we navigate recovery during a pandemic.
