In order to maximize our impact, we need you to spread the word about the Week of Action! Use the first day to share information with your family and friends and explain why they need to participate in the Week of Action.
On this day, faith-based communities will amplify the message of resilience and recovery in places of worship.
Download the National Recovery Month toolkit to access flyers, social media messages, and graphics to assist your outreach. Don’t forget to use the official hashtag, #recoveryiswhy!

Official Kick-off!

Day two of the Week of Action will include an inspiring kickoff with Keynote Speaker: Sonja Gaines, Deputy Executive Commissioner for Intellectual and Developmental Disability & Behavioral Health Services with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.
This is your opportunity to hear directly from Commissioner Gaines on HHSC’s priorities for the recovery community.

Day Four: Wednesday, September 15
Advocacy Day
2020 redefined what it means to reckon with our past, advocate for better in our present, and expand the possibilities for our future. During day four, we’ll create a wave of personalized advocacy across the US, contacting our elected officials and urging them to support the Administration’s FY22 Budget Proposal for the Department of Health and Human Services budget request for $1.65 billion for the Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant (SABG).

Day Five: Thursday, September 16

Seminar: Recovery and DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion)
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Recovery seminar is an opportunity for educators and business leaders to acquire the knowledge and skills to develop a recovery-friendly environment. Participants will earn a certificate by completing this seminar while demonstrating their commitment to support DEI-informed recovery in the workplace and classroom.

Day Six: Friday, September 17
Video Campaign
Why does recovery matter to you? Record your answer in a short 1-2 minute video. Video submissions will be collected August 1-31 and shared on Day six of the Week of Action.

Day Seven: Saturday, September 18
Big Texas Rally – Houston, Texas
This year’s National Rally for Recovery will convene at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas, on September 18, 2021. Come out and enjoy great music, comedy, storytelling, dance, food—all with Houston’s famous hospitality. Dignitaries from the national recovery movement, public officials, persons in Recovery, families, and community supporters will all join the celebration to inspire and replenish our passion for recovery.
